Of all the suicides that took place, 40% were in contact with a mental health or youth care facility. The impact of a suicide is enormous. For survivors, but also for caregivers. Much is already being done, but in the now ongoing National Agenda Suicide Prevention 2021-2025 it has been agreed to further reduce the number of suicides. One building block of this is to give this topic attention at the administrative level. We are doing this with the Administrative Course Suicide Prevention commissioned by the Dutch Mental Health Care and 113.
The course focuses on personal leadership, interaction between participants, increasing factual and substantive knowledge and creating a learning culture that contributes to suicide prevention. The program focuses on four topics: inspiration and motivation, suicide prevention within one’s own organization, personal leadership and change management. At the end of the course, each director knows where his or her organization stands in terms of suicide prevention, there is a concrete plan of action drawn up and there is more insight into how they can even better suicide prevention within their organizations can shape.
