Overview of current situation and development directions for the future

In 2021, an exploration of the current situation and development tasks for the care of forensic juveniles was started in Gelderland and Overijssel In recent years, forensic care for juveniles has been in a state of flux. Since 2019, national signals have been coming in to the Ministry of Security and Justice and the VNG about shortages of appropriate available help for youth in forensic settings. In addition, youth care regions are increasingly experiencing difficulties in contracting the appropriate providers with forensic expertise and keeping forensic youth care expertise available in the region.
