Kick-off Systematic Approach to Suicide Prevention.

Collaboration for Innovation and Improvement

On March 7, a new milestone for suicide prevention in mental health care was reached at the Spoorwegmuseum in Utrecht with the kick-off of the Systematic Approach to Suicide Prevention (SAS). This learning network aims to improve suicide prevention in the treatment room and brings together project leaders and professionals from Arkin, GGZ Rivierduinen, GGZ Oost-Brabant, GGZ Eindhoven and Pro Persona. They will share best practices in suicide prevention and develop a strategy for implementing top suicide prevention within their organizations.

Collaboration for Innovation and Improvement

This meeting marks the beginning of a two-year commitment by these five organizations to improve care for suicidal clients. The goal is to implement effective suicide prevention strategies, including consistently discussing suicidality, applying evidence-based diagnostic methodologies, specific treatment methods focused on suicidality, and collaboration with loved ones and experts by experience, broadly within the organizations. EHdK developed an interactive method that maps how far an organization is in the field of suicide prevention and a game in which project leaders come to an implementation strategy to improve suicide prevention in the treatment room.

The learning network focuses on getting acquainted, exchanging knowledge and formulating long-term goals for suicide prevention. The first steps for developing an action plan were taken. The day ended with an inspiring presentation by GGZ Oost-Brabant, in which they gave insight into the training offer of specific treatment methods for suicidality, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS), and Attempted Suicide Short Intervention Program (ASSIP).

Participating organizations will meet again on May 13 within the learning network to discuss progress and share experiences. In the meantime, the development and implementation of individual plans will be actively pursued, sharing any challenges and success stories.

The SAS program is part of the National Agenda Suicide Prevention and receives support from a project organization consisting of experts from 113 Suicide Prevention, De Nederlandse ggz, MIND, the Suicide Prevention Center, and Aurora. Additional change management support is provided by EHdK.
